Swathed in lush green tea fields as far as the eye can see, the hill country really does transport the visitor back to “Little England”. Known for its cool clime, a trip to the hill country is always a welcome escape from the sweltering heat of the tropics and beaches.

Nuwara Eliya

Known fondly as “Little England” this quaint little town is reminiscent of a provincial English town. A melding of the old with the new, the town has held on to its English roots and architecture creating a quaint little world of its own. Visitors can traipse through tea estates, visit tea factories and sample the famed Ceylon Tea, or simply enjoy the scenic beauty of Nuwara-Eliya.

Kandy

Explore the famed city of Kandy, and immerse yourself in the history and culture of the central highlands. The last stronghold of Sri Lanka against the western colonizers, Kandy is rich in historic and cultural importance. Visit the famed temples of Kandy or have a more adventurous stay and embark on an invigorating hike through mountainous terrain.

Kitulgala

Kitulgala is one of the best-known adventure sports destinations in Sri Lanka. Located amidst thickly forested hills and alongside a gushing river, Kitulgala is the white-water rafting hub of Sri Lanka. If you’re looking for a burst of adrenaline, Kitulgala is the place for you. Feel the adrenaline course through your veins as you battle the rapids of the gushing river or embark on a jungle hike or spend some time exploring nearby caves.

Ratnapura

The gemstone capital of Sri Lanka, you are sure to be flagged down by eager salesman plying you with their precious wares. For those not interested in precious stones, Ratnapura is also the beginning point for one of the older routes up Adams Peak.

Ella

A laid-back city amidst the hills, Ella has the perfect atmosphere in which to chill and relax with a cold drink. It is also great for exciting hikes and treks through verdant forests and tea estates. A visit to the Nine Arch bridge and a hike up Ella Rock or Little Adams Peak will leave you a little worn out but satisfied and craving the relaxation, food and beverage of one of the many quaint eateries in Ella town. We recommend taking the train to Ella, as it is a truly spectacular view.
